Jamberoo

Jamberoo Valley was settled in the 1820's when it abounded in dense vegetation and rainforest. Clearing of the land over the years gave way to grazing runs and dairying and it is reputed to be the home of the Australian Dairy Industry, and the famous "Illawarra Shorthorn" dairy breed of cattle.

Some seven cemeteries are to be found throughout the village which still retains many of its old buildings including Churches, country pubs and schoolhouse.

A map depicting heritage sites is available from Fredericks General Store in Allowrie Street. It will help you find your way around.

The valley boasts some outstanding attractions including the multi award winning Minnamurra Rainforest , Jamberoo Recreation Park, lookouts and waterfalls, with the Barren Grounds Nature Reserve overlooking the valley from the escarpment.

A good range of accommodation is available including resort, guest house, bed & breakfast properties, motel and a pub and is located just fifteen minutes drive west of Kiama.

Jamberoo is a friendly rural village with lots to offer - a unique pub, antique shops, a bakery, newsagency and general store. The local bowling and golf clubs, sports oval and swimming pool offer a rang of activities for the visitor to enjoy.

Just up the road is Jamberoo Action Park for the kids, Minnamurra Rainforest for walkers, bird and nature lovers. Further up Jamberoo Mountain Roadis the Illawarra Fly Tree Top Walk where you walk through the canopy of the "rainforest" along the Illawarra escarpment.
